Manufactured by ANRITSU DENKI. No dates are labeled, but most probably manufactured between late 43 and August 45.
This type of receiver was used during WWII by the Japanese Army for its air service. It was used to communicate between planes such as Zero planes and Japanese ground crew. Model can communicate up to 1,000 km.
The CHI Mark 1 is actually a Japanese copy of a similar type produced by the American National Radio Co.s HRO receiver.
This model series were most known amongst the Japanese army radio types, and was continued to be used by the Japanese governement and Japanese firms after the war.
During the final part of the war, the model series had a name change from CHI Mark 1 to MU 65 along with simplifications in performance and production process due to limitations in supplies.
The MU 65 type 2 has a frequency range of between 2,500 KHz and 13,350 KHz amongst 3 coils. MU 65 type 2 had a design more suited for telegraphy. (Ref: http://kenyamamoto.com/yokohamaradiomuseum/2012apr22.html)
As for this example, innards look original, with the original tube included. No conversions visible. It was common after the war that the tubes would be converted to more modern types and new parts added for better performance, instead of using the originals, but this example shows none of such.
Inner frame and box seems to be made of aluminum or duralumin.
Labels to nobs, dials, and vacuum tubes are mostly made of metal sheets on earlier made CHI receivers, hense lasting longer, but possibly due to material shortages towards the war end, the labels seem made of celluloid and hense darkened by age.
This particular example may have been used to communicate with Kamikazees.
